Forthcoming Interview with Catherine Delors

Catherine Delors, author of Mistress of the Revolution, has graciously agreed to answer some questions about her wonderful new novel and about writing historical fiction in general. Be sure to check back towards the end of next week to read the interview. In the meantime, start reading the novel itself...you won't be disappointed!

Hi,

I know this is a way off the topic of your post, but I was wondering if you could help a fellow writer with a Renaissance question?

My story takes place in Tudor England. One of the lead characters is a Wise Woman or a healer. When I"ve had people read the manuscript most people don't know what a wisewoman is. Do you have any suggestions for what I can call this character?

Thanks

MM,

I think you're calling her the right thing. If people aren't understanding the term, you'll have to make it clear from her actions and words what she is. The reader might not understand the term when she initially encounters it, but should by the end of the scene. The only other term I can think of, other than healer, is midwife, but that's probably not exactly what you want.
