Virtual Cover

I was goofing around the other day and made myself a cover for The Measure of SIlence. I'd been looking for a sixteenth-century portrait of a woman holding a book and was thrilled to find this one (although I didn't note the artist or title, and now I can't remember where I found it!). Anyway, I proceeded to cut off most of her head--otherwise no one would realize the book is a historical novel. *wink* I don't have an art program on my laptop, so just imagine my name and the title in the blue area in the upper left. Voilà. They say if you want to succeed at something, visualize yourself doing the thing successfully. We'll see how it works!

I really like it. I would definitely go right towards that cover to figure out what lay beneath.

Thanks, Amy! If my book ever sells, I'll suggest the painting (once I figure out who painted it!). First time authors hardly ever get any say in covers, though.

I liked this picture because it's rare to find a picture of a woman with a book and the clothing isn't the outrageously sumptuous costume of a noblewoman.

Love the cover too! And just realized that you weren't linked yet on http://www.wondersandmarvels.com

Now you are! :)

Thanks, Holly--I'm assuming that's you? :)

Beautiful cover and fabulous idea!!! The week before I sold Nefertiti, I printed out an empty contract and filled in all the pertinent details. Seven days later... :] I a total believer.

WHERE CAN I FIND ONE OF THOSE CONTRACTS???????

Good, book covers again! So you too are going headless, Julianne... I can't place this painting either. Can we at least have a peek at this lady's face?

It is a portrait of a young lady of the Medici family, by Bronzino. See

Ody,

Thank you so much for identifying the painting for me! You saved me hours of work. I knew the year--1545, but that was all. I'll have to do a post on Bronzino, since I've spoken so much about the French portraitists.

My daughter's waiting to hear a big college application decision today. I'll just live vicariously through her for the time being, since the virtual cover thing doesn't appear to be working...

Oh... good luck!!! I know how that feels!
